The opportunity presented itself for me to take two of my sons and their friend on a pretty last minute adventure to Hawaii via WestJet Vacations, and so we jumped on it.
The flight over was Edmonton – Vancouver – Honolulu – while it was long it really wasn’t bad. We landed in Hawaii in the dead of night so really had no opportunity to get our bearings as we navigated the GPS to the hotel in our rental car.
We stayed at the Ohana Waikiki West – which has now closed and been renovated – which was fine for what we needed. We were able to sit on our balconies and watch the early morning surfers riding waves in to shore. It was wonderful. The room had a small fridge, stove and microwave so we bought fresh sushi every morning from a nearby corner store and we kept the fridge stocked with cold drinks.
We had a pretty packed itinerary – swimming with sharks, the Dole plantation, a flight to the Big Island and visits to volcanoes.
Every adventure was just stunning. While we were exhausted we were super happy and satisfied with the journey.
Definitely one place I have on the list to return to.
Or if you are really brave, swim with Sharks without the cage.
