I am not sure about the rest of you, but my wallet of loyalty cards doth runneth over! I have signed up for rewards on every airline I have flown, every hotel that offered one up and every other program I have come across. But no matter what, at the end of the day the same is true: none of them actively hold enough points for a single reward. Nada. Zippola.
Well my point collecting friends, that is all about to change! Enter Points.com – hands down one of the best ideas to come along in ages.
Points.com touts itself as a Points Loyalty Wallet and describes itself like this: “Manage all your loyalty programs in one spot, move points and miles between programs, and redeem them for shopping and dining gift cards.”
What does that really mean to you and me? That means that I can trade those points that I have earned in on something I can actually use!
In this article, we will take you through signing up for the program, adding some loyalty programs and finally go over what we can do with those straggler points.
Signing up is easy:
- Navigate to Points.com’s website.
- Click on “Join for Free”.
- Pick whichever is easier for you: Join using Facebook or enter an email address and password.
- Voila! You are now a member.
From here we need to go through and find all of the loyalty programs that we belong to.
- Click on Add Program – and a menu of programs opens up.
- Search for your program and click on Save.
- Once saved, you have to provide your program details – loyalty number etc.
- Click on Register. Provide your numbers, username and password as required.
- Save your changes.
- Your balances now show up!
- Phew! All the hard work is done!
Once you have loaded up your programs, the real fun begins.
Looking to take a flight? Stay in a hotel? How about go to a movie? This is the coolest part of the whole site. Go to your Wallet and select Redeem.
Select the program that you want to use the points from and voila!! The options are nearly endless! Swap your points for gift cards to a whole host of options.
If you are actively planning your next trip, consider a point swap. Go to your Wallet and select Exchange. From there, you will find compatible programs – you can move your points from one program to another just like that!
Not all programs let you swap out like this, but play around with the combinations to find one that works best for you. You can even Exchange and then Redeem!
I have played around with the Points.com program a fair bit, and I have to tell you, for a free program, it really is brilliant. It costs you nothing, and they don’t spam you with a bunch of junk mail, so you really have nothing to lose. Sign up!
